A massive 126 run opening partnership by Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul gave India a solid start in these overseas conditions. India finieshed day 1 at 276/3, credits to Rohit's 83 and Rahul's brilliant century (129).
DAY 2
Allowing contributions from all, India jotted a score of 364/10. England finished day 2 at 119/3, trailing by 157 runs.
DAY 3
Captain Root's magnificient innings of 180*, took England to a score of 391/10, allowing a lead of 27.
DAY 4
2 innings in 2 days for the match to have a result, India started Day 4 loosing early wickets. 181/6 was all that was possible from Day 4, as India took a lead of 154 with 4 wickets in hand.

England came into the day as favourites.
Losing 2 wickets early in the day, England were all over India at 209/8. India's lower order, Jasprit Bumrah (34*) and Mohammed Shami (56*) had turned the pressure around on England so swiftly and clinically that the hosts, who were in control of the game coming into the last day, folded in the final hour. Target of 272 was never possible for the Englishmen, exceptional bowling by the Indians and India went 1-0 up in the series.
